Swedish Whistler

Great Lizard Cuckoo

Swedish Whistler Swedish Whistler is a hard-edged pop group from Sweden that simply must be heard. They are at once charming, entertaining, joyful and perhaps just a teeny bit dark and dangerous. Don't let that frighten you, though, it's only music . . . but manoman, what music!

Swedish Whistler is fronted by power-house vocalist/bass player Sussi Johansson. Her voice is commanding and confident and she makes the bass look like child's play. She is more than adequately backed by Patrik Arvidsson (guitar and vocals), Stefan Johansson (synthesizer), and Ludwig Jonsson (drums).

Their current contribution to the PeaceWork Records Label is their stunning and ambitious 16-music-track-plus-four-video-track enhanced CD "Great Lizard Cuckoo" as well as their tireless dedication and self-promotion efforts.

"We haven't slowed down our self-promotion just because we've signed to PeaceWork Music. We are aware of the fact that it is when you are signed to a Label that even harder work begins. We know that if you release music that doesn´t sell, you can end up more dead-in-the-water than you were before you signed the agreement. Our band supports the Label fully; pitching in to help where needed. Whether it be stuffing envelopes, sending releases out to radio and press or other promotional activities to assist the Label."

Swedish WHISTLER was formed in the summer of 1994 in Ljungby by Sussi and Patrik with some members joining and leaving before the line-up was completed with Stefan and Ludwig.

Swedish Whistler In the summer of 1997 Swedish WHISTLER produced their first CD; an EP called "Pop Fiction" (released 11/5-98 by norwegian Bed Not Found Records). The track "Guitaroids (From Outer Space)" was airplayed by Swedish Radio p3 971025.

16-17 May 1998 Swedish WHISTLER recorded some tracks in a real haunted house (Fylleskog) and even slept over in the house for inspiration. Unfortunately they never saw the ghost but because there were some technical problems, the local press made a big thing of it. Hans Arnold, the great horror painter who also did the cover for ABBA´s "Greatest Hits" album, contributed with artwork and the Fylleskog Tapes were released on their first LP, "Dazzling Days." Swedish WHISTLER became "Artists Of The Week" with the album in the Swedish Radio P4 Kronoberg and got nice attention from some of the biggest newspapers in Sweden.

So, what exactly is the media saying about Swedish Whistler?

(translated from Swedish) "[Swedish WHISTLER] not only has exquisite timing, they also have the tunes that just cut direct. There is a tendency to compare the entire set of bands that has popfeeling, bossy organ and a female singer in the front with Blondie. [Swedish WHISTLER] have, in their good moments, the same infectious self-confidence, but sound rather like a meeting between Bangles and Cardigans. Sussi Johansson has a voluptious rockvoice, while the key boards and guitar reminds me of pleasant recent new waves 70-ths. Above all, many of the tunes are damm good trendy rock. "Variations" is large, "Slander" is a slow, small pearl, "Rush Hour" is reminiscent of driving Bangles-pop, "Wine into The zinc" is a bittersweet divorce-track; almost dignified Cardigans. In its present condition "Dazzling days" is not enough for the charts, but the record displays with strong emphasis that [Swedish WHISTLER] is a band that should reach the charts . . . with help from a bigger record company."
Måns Ivarsson, Expressen

(translated from Swedish) "Great Lizard Cuckoo is so good that it could have been a work from a veteran English Indieband. In fact, I am amazed. Swedish WHISTLER treats you to delicious popcandy; somewhere between Blondie and late Fleetwood Mac spiced up with a special garage-feeling. Take a tune like Sorry; a pearl worth a destiny far away from Ryssby or Agunnaryd. Or I Wish - Or Silly Song - Or around 7 other tracks"
Ingemar Melin, Smålänningen
